Boomers bond, share advice on parenting their parents
Ian Gardner has learned a thing or 20 in the past few years about how to juggle a job and raise a family while caring for both a frail mother and an 80-year-old father-in-law with Alzheimer’s.
And he’s keen to share with the roughly three million other Canadians who, like him, have become caregivers to ailing family members.
Gardner has created a website — one part practical information, two parts social networking — aimed at helping boomers navigate the last years of their parents’ lives and, eventually, their own.
Mycarejourney.com launched a few weeks ago, Gardner says, and it has already garnered a growing list of high-profile supporters, including geriatrician Dr. Michael Gordon, director of palliative care at Toronto’s Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care.
