Mediate Michigan

There is no state-wide formula for calculating spousal support as there is for child support. The Court in Washtenaw County adopted it's own formula in 1983. Other Michigan counties have adopted Washtenaw's formula or variations thereof. The Court will usually consider the following factors in making it's determination:

The length of the marriage
The contributions of the parties to the joint estate
The ages of the parties
The health of the parties
The parties' stations in life
The necessities of the parties
The earning abilities of the parties
