Anyone in a legal case should get off Facebook and Twitter
Jailing a juror for contempt of court for contact made on Facebook raised many more questions about how social networking websites and the courts co-exist. But solicitor Sara Tomaszewski says the problem lies with site users, not the sites themselves
MORE often than not, people don’t see sending a message to someone on Facebook as “contact”.
Unfortunately for them, the courts do. Social networking sites are a relatively new phenomenon and, while the law’s position on their use is clear, many of the people using them still don’t fully understand the impact they can have in a legal case.
