A local attorney no doubt shocked some viewers of the Today show recently by discussing a client who divorced her husband of 44 years to pay for his care following the onset of dementia. Such extreme measures might not be common, but they illustrate the potential financial pitfalls of long-term care, and drive home the importance of planning for such care well before retirement.
