Couples staying together because of poor economy

This economy has created a new phenomenon, divorced couples who live together.  A great article on this anomaly can be found here.

The article notes that:

“With the recession and the collapse of the housing market, more and more couples who have broken up are continuing to live under the same roof, according to judges and divorce lawyers. Some are waiting for housing prices to rebound; some are trying to get back on their feet financially.”

“The phenomenon is being felt around the country but most keenly in areas hit harder by foreclosure, such as the Sun Belt.”

Mediation can help couples who find themselves in this position negotiate ground rules which can make living in this situation more tolerable.  Mediation can also be beneficial to those who cannot afford to divorce due to the economy or other factors.
