Divorcing Couple Tries Mediation to Save Money While Stuck Living Together
A contentious courtroom divorce can cost tens of thousands of dollars and drag on for months or years. To try to contain the damage, and save time, money, and heartache, one Arizona couple is taking a different path: mediation.
Shari and Chris Stewart of Tempe, Ariz., struggle to agree on terms of divorce.Chris and Shari Stewart, of Tempe, are trying to hammer out a settlement — outside of court. They’ve hired a professional mediator, Allison Quattrocchi, who has successfully mediated hundreds of divorces.
“The goal really is to put the best post-divorce family together, that they’re capable of doing,” said Quattrocchi, author of several short books about mediation and divorce, including “How to Talk to Children about Divorce,” “Other Ways to Get a Divorce” and “Taking Control of Your Divorce.”
