Divorce declines with the economy

Among the alternatives the article notes:
“Scott Hardy of Carolina Divorce Mediators in Charlotte said his business is up 20 percent this year.“The economy has put such a strain on them that they can’t afford a lawyer, so they go to a divorce mediator,” he said.
Hardy said his clients usually pay around $2,000, plus $750 or so for a lawyer to draw up a separation document. Hiring a lawyer, by comparison, could cost $15,000 up front, and with a child custody battle or other complication, fees could easily reach $50,000, he said.”
