New economics of divorce: Breaking up is harder to do

A rather fatalistic comedian once said, just as his had, half of all marriages end in an expensive divorce. Still, he took comfort in knowing he got off cheap – the other half ended in death.

That rather extreme worldview aside, the economic hard times are driving more people to consider ending marriages in an effort to reclaim their financial independence.
